Embrace U’s Admission Process

What to expect during admission at Embrace U

The admission and intake process for Embrace U’s outpatient treatment programs is designed to be straightforward and supportive. It’s typically the first time we’ll interact with your child and assess their symptoms. We’ll answer any questions you have about our therapy groups, mental health providers, modalities, outcomes, or insurance coverage and cost. During the admission process, we develop a treatment plan that addresses your child’s needs, set expectations for treatment and goals, and review participation guidelines.

How Do I Get Started With Embrace U?

Step 1: Call Us or Fill Out the Intake Form

Your journey begins with a simple phone call or online form submission. Embrace U’s admission team is available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday. You can call us at (615) 656-8624 or complete the online intake form. We’ll get back to you within 24 business hours.
We’ll make sure you understand how Embrace U works, verify your insurance coverage, and provide a cost estimate.

Step 2: Free Clinical Consultation

Once we’ve collected your information and obtained a brief overview of your child’s mental health challenges, we’ll set up a free clinical consultation. This intake assessment allows our team to create a personalized treatment plan.

The consultation will take place at our adolescent mental health clinic in Brentwood, Tenn. A licensed therapist will meet with your child for about an hour.

Step 3: In-Depth Psychiatric Assessment

After the initial consultation, a psychiatric provider will conduct an in-depth assessment of the participant. This is also done at our clinic and usually takes an hour. The assessment helps the provider make an accurate diagnosis and initial treatment plan.

Based on the severity of symptoms an adolescent is experiencing, the provider will recommend either the intensive outpatient program  or the partial hospitalization program. Both involve group therapy meetings at our mental health clinic. We recommend starting treatment a day after the in-depth assessment if possible.

Step 4: Therapeutic Assignment and Comprehensive Treatment Plan

Your child will be assigned a primary therapist specializing in their treatment needs and placed in a therapeutic group with peers in their age group. Our multi-pronged approach also includes individual and family therapy sessions, which allow healing from the root cause, not just the symptoms.

Why Adolescent Mental Health Is Important

When treating children and teens ages 10 to 18 who are experiencing a mental health challenge, experts say giving them an empathetic and authentic place to express themselves is paramount.

“This is a place where we can have hard conversations, and they don’t have to be afraid to admit how they’re actually feeling,” said Whitney Shariati, LMFT, office and patient coordinator at Embrace U.  “They don’t have to fake it when they come here.”

Battling Stigma and Embracing Self-Love

As part of Embrace U’s intake and admissions process, we focus on breaking down the barriers of stigma.  Studies show that approximately one in five teens between the ages of 12 and 18 experience a diagnosable mental health disorder. But many of these teens won’t get the help they need due to fear of being viewed as flawed or weak. This isn’t just a number but a call to action. One of the first steps to overcoming these challenges is seeking professional help.

“No age range is immune to this idea that if we have to reach out for mental health support, then it must mean that something is going wrong or that we’re doing something bad,” said Shariati. “I think getting any type of mental health support is an act of self-love to equip ourselves with tools that we would need to get through anything we are going through in life.”

During the admissions process at Embrace U, this ethos of self-love and empowerment is strongly emphasized. Teens and their families are educated about the importance of seeing mental health support not as a sign of weakness but as a crucial step in personal growth.
